FG and Lagos State Launch Youth Unemployment Framework

The Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with the Lagos State Government, has announced the development of a framework aimed at tackling youth unemployment. This initiative focuses on aligning available skills with labor market demands through technical vocational education and training (TVET).
Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, disclosed this during the TVET 2026 conference held in Lagos.
The framework is part of President Bola Tinubu's administration's broader educational reform program, which aims to enhance Nigeria's educational sector and address the needs of a growing population projected to exceed 350 million by 2050, with nearly 70% under the age of 30. The initiative includes training 4,000 instructors in modern teaching methods and deploying 2,500 quality assurance managers to strengthen standards across technical colleges and vocational institutes.
The government plans to upgrade 38 technical workshops and launch a national skill information center to connect skill acquisition directly to employment opportunities, ensuring that every TVET graduate possesses market-relevant skills.
