FG and Lagos State Launch 24/7 Energy Zones Initiative

The Federal Government and Lagos State have initiated a collaboration to deliver stable electricity through the 24/7 Energy Zones pilot, approved by President Bola Tinubu. This agreement was reached during a technical session at the Lagos House, Marina, involving Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe and Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The pilot will commence in Lagos and expand to the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano and Enugu-Port Harcourt corridors. Minister Tegbe confirmed that distribution companies have committed to providing steady electricity along the Lagos corridor.
He emphasized the Ministry's focus on four priority areas: Grid Stabilisation, Market Liquidity, Grid Expansion, and Governance and Regulatory Harmonisation. Governor Sanwo-Olu praised Tegbe's proactive approach since taking office and reiterated Lagos's commitment to creating a competitive electricity market.
To facilitate this, a Joint Technical Committee has been formed, chaired by the Managing Director of NISO and co-chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Energy. This committee will report to a Steering Committee led by the Governor and the Minister of Power.
