Federal Government Initiates 24-Hour Power Supply Plan

The Federal Government has initiated discussions with electricity distribution companies to create dedicated Energy Zones aimed at providing 24-hour electricity supply to homes, businesses, and industries in major demand centers across Nigeria, including the Lagos axis, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano corridor, and Enugu-Port Harcourt corridor. Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, disclosed this during a closed-door meeting with leaders from selected electricity distribution companies, as stated by his media aide, Adeola Adelabu.

The initiative seeks to tackle persistent distribution constraints and ensure that electricity generated and transmitted through the national grid reaches consumers reliably, particularly in areas with high commercial and industrial demand. Tegbe emphasized that the challenges in Nigeria’s electricity sector extend beyond generation and transmission to include distribution capacity.

The proposed Energy Zones will focus on areas critical to manufacturing and business activities. However, specifics regarding the implementation timeline, electricity capacity allocation, and required infrastructure investments have not yet been announced.
