Nigeria Launches Laptop Credit Scheme for Digital Access

The Federal Government of Nigeria launched a new Laptop Credit Scheme on Tuesday in Abuja, aimed at making internet-enabled devices more affordable for Nigerians. This initiative, developed in partnership with Credicorp, is designed to bridge the digital divide by providing structured financing for digital tools.

The program will prioritize the local assembly of laptops to support job creation and local manufacturing. Dr.

Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, emphasized that access to affordable credit is crucial for building a $1 trillion economy, as stated by President Bola Tinubu. The scheme will distribute 1,000 locally assembled laptops to qualified participants of the government's three million technical talent (3MTT) program, with a nationwide rollout beginning in Abuja, where 77 beneficiaries received devices.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to expand access to affordable technology and ensure Nigerians can thrive in the digital economy.
