FG launches N100bn solar power projects for public institutions

The Federal Government has launched a N100 billion solar power project for public institutions, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between various entities. The National Public Sector Solarization Initiative (NPSSI) aims to deploy solar energy solutions in schools, hospitals, security posts, and government offices to reduce dependence on diesel and lower carbon emissions.

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) stated that the first phase of NPSSI is fully funded by the government, with subsequent phases to utilize a blended financing model involving private capital and international funders. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to position Nigeria as a renewable energy hub in Africa, promote local manufacturing, and enhance energy infrastructure sustainability.

Officials highlighted the importance of NPSSI in addressing Nigeria's energy gap and improving fiscal efficiency in the public sector. InfraCorp also praised the initiative as a model for future infrastructure financing in Nigeria.
