FG Allocates ₦111bn for Fourth Legacy Highway Project

The Federal Government of Nigeria has mobilized ₦111 billion for the commencement of the fourth legacy highway project, as announced by the Minister of Works, David Umahi. This funding follows the approval from President Bola Tinubu, allowing the contractor, CGC Joint Venture, to begin work immediately.

The fourth legacy highway, spanning 700 kilometers, will start from Akwanga in Nasarawa State and extend through Kaduna, Bauchi, Gombe, and into southern Yobe, Biu, and Maiduguri in Borno State. This project is designed to boost economic growth and facilitate trade across the nation by connecting all six geopolitical zones.

The Federal Government will provide 30% of the project funding, with the remaining 70% sourced from foreign financing. Umahi emphasized the use of reinforced concrete pavement technology to ensure durability on heavily trafficked roads.

The project complements three other legacy highways currently under construction and is part of Tinubu's broader infrastructure development agenda.
