Umahi: Tinubu's Govt Initiated Two New Highways Only

During an inspection of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, David Umahi, the Minister of Works, revealed that the current administration has initiated only two new road projects: the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Highway. He clarified that all other projects are continuations of previously abandoned or neglected initiatives.

Umahi asserted that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway would significantly transform transportation, commerce, and economic activities in the coastal states, while also creating new investment opportunities. He dismissed rumors regarding the project's alignment, stating it was based on engineering realities rather than private interests.

Soil tests revealed challenging conditions that influenced the highway's design. Construction is progressing, with Section One completed and ongoing work in Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states.

Hitech Construction Company aims to complete the project by 2028, potentially reducing travel time between Lagos and Ondo to under two hours.
