Six Charged in Alleged Coup Plot Against Tinubu

Former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva and five others have been charged with 13 counts related to an alleged conspiracy to overthrow President Bola Tinubu's government. The charges, filed on a Tuesday, include treason, terrorism, and conspiracy to commit terror offenses.

The Nigerian military's Department of State Services is investigating the alleged coup plotters, which reportedly stem from grievances over career stagnation among military officers. Major General Moham Ibrahim Gana, Captain Erasmus Ochegobia, Victor, Inspector Ahm Ibrahim, Zekeri Umoru, Bukar Kashim Goni, and Abdulkadir Sani are also implicated.

The military high command revealed that 16 officers were arrested in connection with the case. Families of the detainees have protested for justice, demanding a fair trial.

Timipre Sylva is reportedly being sought for extradition to Nigeria to face the charges, which include offenses against the Federal Republic of Nigeria as outlined in various sections of the criminal code.
