FG Mulls Repatriation of Simon Ekpa After Finnish Jail Term

The Nigerian government considers repatriating Simon Ekpa after his six-year jail term in Finland. Ekpa, a Finnish citizen, was sentenced by a Finnish court for multiple charges, including involvement in a terrorist organization and incitement to commit crimes.

The court found Ekpa guilty of aggravated tax fraud and violating the Lawyers Act. Ekpa, a former municipal politician in Lahti, was ordered to remain in custody until November 2024.

The court revealed Ekpa's role in pushing for the independence of the Biafra region in Nigeria through illegal means. The Minister of Information and National Orientation in Abuja hinted at the possibility of requesting Ekpa's repatriation to serve the remainder of his sentence in Nigeria.
