FG Orders Implementation of New Police Regulations

The Federal Government of Nigeria has mandated the immediate implementation of newly gazetted regulations for the Nigeria Police Force, as announced during a presentation at the Ministry of Police Affairs in Abuja on Wednesday. Ibrahim Geidam, the Minister of Police Affairs, introduced the regulations in the presence of Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu and other key stakeholders, including the Executive Secretary of the Police Trust Fund and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission.

The regulations were developed through extensive consultations with various stakeholders, including the Federal Ministry of Justice and civil society organizations. Geidam emphasized that the document aims to renew the commitment to professionalism, discipline, and respect for the rule of law within the police force.

The regulations are structured around three main pillars: leadership reform, arrest and detention practices, and community oversight, reflecting global best practices and democratic values. The Inspector General of Police has been directed to ensure the immediate implementation of these regulations across all police commands.
