FG Investigates N120 Billion Power Losses in Ikorodu-Sagamu

The Federal Government has raised concerns over power losses of up to 100 megawatts (MW) along the 132kV Ikorodu–Sagamu industrial corridor, resulting in an estimated N120 billion in lost revenue over one year. Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe expressed these concerns during a stakeholder meeting with industrial operators and electricity market participants.

He directed stakeholders to conduct a transparent, data-driven investigation into the discrepancies between electricity transmitted and the volume billed by distribution companies (DisCos). The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has identified unusual loading patterns and significant discrepancies in energy flows.

The investigation aims to determine if the losses are due to meter tampering, data manipulation, illegal connections, or other forms of electricity theft. Tegbe stressed the importance of accountability and accurate metering, linking reliable power supply to these factors.

The government seeks to improve electricity supply to industrial clusters while addressing the financial challenges in Nigeria’s power sector.
