Mother Discovers Son's Kidney Removal via Phone Call

Samuel Ezekiel, a 22-year-old, allegedly had his kidney removed on April 24, 2026, after being deceived by his friend, Emmanuel Ode. Ezekiel's mother discovered the incident through a phone call, unaware that her son had been taken to Wellington Hospital in Abuja.

Ode misled Ezekiel into believing they were going for a different medical purpose and assured him that the kidney removal would not harm his health. During the procedure, Ezekiel's identity was reportedly changed to "Hassan Abubakar," and an affidavit was prepared at the Federal High Court.

The Nigeria Police Force later arrested Ode, along with Dr. Benjamin Oyime, a nephrologist at Wellington Hospital, Dr. Daniel Otukpa, the Acting Director of Clinical Services, and David Idoko, during a sting operation on August 19. The police alleged that Ode confessed to recruiting victims under false pretenses, targeting vulnerable young people for illegal organ harvesting, and forging official documents to facilitate these procedures.
