FG Commits to Improving Maternal and Newborn Health

The Federal Government of Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to strengthening maternal and newborn health services across the country. This announcement follows the successful management of a complex delivery involving quadruplets at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The delivery, which took place over the weekend, involved Mr. Mufiat Olateju, who was referred to the tertiary health facility.

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziak Adekunle Salako, received a briefing on the situation and directed the management of FMC Abeokuta to ensure that both the mother and the newborns received comprehensive medical care and monitoring.

The minister emphasized the importance of early and consistent antenatal care for pregnant women to detect and manage potential complications, thereby improving pregnancy outcomes and ensuring safer deliveries. He commended the medical team at FMC Abeokuta for their prompt and coordinated response in managing the delivery.
