Nigeria Reaffirms Commitment to Migration Sovereignty

On a recent visit to the British High Commission in Abuja, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, the Minister of Interior, reaffirmed the Federal Government of Nigeria's commitment to protecting national sovereignty in migration matters.

He highlighted the importance of strengthening security cooperation and expanding economic opportunities between Nigeria and the United Kingdom. During discussions with Dr.

Richard Montgomery, the head of the British High Commission, Dr. Tunji Ojo emphasized that migration management is a shared responsibility and a critical pillar of Nigeria's security strategy.

The two countries are working towards finalizing an updated Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on migration and return, reflecting their shared commitment to efficient and lawful human migration processes. Dr.

Tunji Ojo welcomed the UK's continued cooperation in intelligence sharing and technical support. He reiterated Nigeria's resolve to strike a strategic balance between effective border control and economic development, aligning with the broader federal government's economic reform agenda.
