Nigeria and UK Sign Key Agreements on Migration and Trade

During President Bola Tinubu's state visit, Nigeria and the United Kingdom signed three significant agreements aimed at enhancing migration, trade, and border security. The agreements, disclosed in an email statement from the UK High Commission, include two memoranda of understanding and a statement of intent.

The UK Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, and Nigeria's Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, marked this as a significant step in bilateral relations.

The agreements are designed to strengthen migration systems, boost trade, and enhance border security cooperation, reflecting a shared commitment to tackle fraud and improve administrative processes. This initiative builds on previous efforts, including a memorandum of understanding on fraud prevention signed a year ago.

The latest agreements align with President Tinubu's broader reform agenda focused on socio-economic development and attracting foreign investment. They also introduce new mechanisms to improve migration processes and facilitate joint security operations, which have already led to 400 arrests and the seizure of £7.5 million.
