FG Releases CATA Funds for University Lecturers in 2026

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the release of funds to pay the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) to academic staff of federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education for the period of January to August 2026. This announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, on Wednesday following the inauguration of the Ministerial Committee on Accreditation.

The payment is part of the 2025 agreement between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities. Dr Alausa stated that the affected institutions should have received notifications to commence payments to eligible academic employees.

While the total amount released was not disclosed, he indicated that funds for non-academic workers are still being processed and expected to be available in the coming weeks. This initiative is part of President Bola Tinubu's administration's efforts to enhance working conditions in public tertiary institutions and improve the quality of education in Nigeria.
