FG Releases CATA Payment for Tertiary Institution Staff

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the release of funds for the full payment of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) to eligible academic staff in federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, covering the period from January to August 2026. This announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, on Wednesday following the inauguration of the Ministerial Committee on Accreditation.

CATA is intended to assist academic staff in acquiring essential tools and materials necessary for teaching, research, and other academic activities. The Ministry of Education has notified all federal tertiary institutions to begin payments to eligible staff, with funding expected to be available in the coming weeks.

This payment is part of the broader implementation of the 2025 FGN–ASUU Agreement, which includes provisions for various academic expenses. Additionally, an Implementation Monitoring Committee was inaugurated in June 2026 to ensure compliance with the agreement and maintain industrial harmony in the university system.
