FG Settles Eight-Month Allowance Arrears for Lecturers

On September 9, 2026, the Federal Government of Nigeria announced the release of funds to settle an eight-month backlog of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) owed to eligible academic staff in federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. This payment covers the period from January to August 2026.

Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, disclosed this development after inaugurating the Ministerial Committee on Accreditation. A statement from Folasade Boriowo, the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Federal Ministry of Education, confirmed that all federal tertiary institutions had been notified to commence payments to qualified academic personnel.

The disbursement aligns with the 2025 Federal Government of Nigeria–Academic Staff Union of Universities (FGN-ASUU) Agreement, emphasizing the government's commitment to fulfilling agreements made with stakeholders in the education sector.
