Foreign Terrorists Identified in Northern Nigeria Attacks

The Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation Georg Akum, revealed that many terrorists involved in deadly attacks in Northern Nigeria are not Nigerian citizens but foreign nationals. This information was disclosed during a meeting with members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria in Abuja on Sunday.

An intelligence report from security agencies indicated that suspects arrested in recent attacks do not speak English or Hausa but communicate fluently in French, suggesting their foreign origins. Akum emphasized that while Boko Haram originated in Nigeria, foreign fighters are now involved in attacks, particularly in rural areas of Niger State.

He described the insecurity as a global challenge, not limited to Nigeria, and noted that even developed countries face similar threats. Akum also discussed the government's efforts to enhance security operations, including acquiring new military equipment and boosting intelligence sharing with international partners.

He rejected proposals for the reintegration of repentant terrorists and called for a balanced approach to the security crisis.
