Nigeria Secures N700bn for 1.1m Electricity Meters Nationwide by 2025

The Nigerian government has secured N700 billion to deploy 1.1 million electricity meters nationwide by 2025, as part of ongoing energy reform initiatives. The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, disclosed this during the 2025 Nigerian Energy Forum in Lagos.

The initiative, including the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI), aims to roll out two million meters annually over the next five years. Various funding sources like the World Bank, NSIA, and JICA are being leveraged to expand electricity access, especially in underserved communities, schools, hospitals, and public institutions.
