Nigeria Seeks BRICS Support for Agricultural Transformation

The Federal Government of Nigeria is actively seeking support from BRICS nations to transform its agricultural sector. During a conference, Senator Abubakar Kyari called for stronger global cooperation to tackle food security challenges, emphasizing that Nigeria remains Africa's largest agricultural business hub.

Kyari urged BRICS member countries, including Brazil and India, to collaborate in strengthening food production and agricultural value chains. The Nigerian government prioritizes the development of special agro-processing zones across the country to attract investments.

Kyari highlighted Nigeria's vast agricultural potential, including its arable land and access to continental markets. He stressed that Nigeria's agricultural policies focus on supporting farmers, particularly smallholder farmers, women, and youth.

In a bilateral meeting with Indian Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Kyari reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to enhancing agricultural cooperation with India, aiming to deepen strategic partnerships in agricultural technology and crop production trade.
