Nigerian Government Rejects Compulsory Military Training

The Nigerian government has officially dismissed claims regarding the introduction of compulsory military training for youths. This statement was made by Gen.

Christoph Musa (retd), the Minister of Defence, during a public engagement in Abuja on Friday. He clarified that there is no truth to the reports and reaffirmed the government's commitment to professional voluntary military service, which complements civic national service programs.

Col. Georg Usib, the Deputy Director of Special Duties in the Ministry, supported this position, highlighting that global experiences demonstrate that security challenges, such as insurgency and terrorism, cannot be addressed solely through manpower.

The government is open to scholarly inquiries and public dialogue regarding national service, stressing that future policies will consider constitutional provisions and economic realities while building strong citizen-state relationships to enhance national security.
