Nigerian Government Targets Under-7-Day Cargo Clearance at Ports by 2026

The Nigerian government, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, is committed to streamlining port operations to reduce cargo clearance time to under 7 days by 2026. This initiative, discussed during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, includes implementing a National Single Window (NSW) system to harmonize documentation processes and minimize human contact.

Concerns were raised about Nigeria's current average cargo dwell time of 18-21 days compared to other countries like Ghana and Benin. Key agencies like the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) are tasked with collaborating to achieve this goal.
