FG Urged to Enhance Sustainable SBCC Systems in Nigeria

The Federal Government has been urged to strengthen community ownership and develop sustainable systems to support effective Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) interventions across Nigeria. This call was made during a post-SBCC Summit engagement organized by the Centre for Communication and Social Impact (CCSI) in Abuja.

Experts advocated for SBCC to transition from fragmented, short-term projects to coordinated, community-led, and sustainable interventions. Babafunke Fagbemi, Executive Director of CCSI, emphasized the need for stronger coordination among SBCC practitioners to reduce fragmentation and improve intervention impacts.

She highlighted the importance of adapting global SBCC lessons to Nigeria’s local context and called for a mindset change among Nigerians to take responsibility for social challenges. Temidayo Ibitoye of Dinovate stressed that storytelling should be seen as an intervention for behavioral change, while Wame Jallow of Shuga Global noted that collaboration is essential for effective SBCC.
