FG to Deploy Military Veterans for Community Policing to Boost Security and Economy

The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled a strategy to engage retired military personnel in community policing as part of efforts to reclaim ungoverned spaces exploited by terrorist groups. The initiative, tagged "Reclaim Ungoverned Space Economic Benefit Program (RUSEB-P)," aims to deploy experienced veterans to strengthen local security architecture and stimulate economic activities in affected areas.

The Minister of Defence, Badaru, disclosed the plan during a press briefing in Abuja, emphasizing the need to utilize the expertise of ex-military personnel to prevent terrorist resurgence and restore socio-economic life in affected communities. Additionally, the government will introduce digital initiatives like the "Thank a Soldier QR Code" to honor fallen heroes and enhance communication with military personnel.
