Nigeria to Embed Journalists in Military Operations

On Thursday, during the National Security Summit organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja, Defence Minister General Christoph Gwabin Musa (rtd) disclosed a plan to embed journalists in military operations. This initiative is part of efforts to enhance the accuracy of security reporting and deepen public understanding of ongoing counterinsurgency and internal security operations.

Musa emphasized the critical role of media in national security management and warned against the premature release of sensitive operational information, which could compromise missions and endanger personnel. The summit, themed "Media and Security Agencies Partnership," aimed to address Nigeria's evolving security challenges and foster mutual respect and trust between journalists and security agencies.

Musa noted the importance of upholding professional ethics in reporting security matters, while NUJ President Comrade Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi highlighted the need for collaboration between journalists and the government in safeguarding national security.
