Defence Minister Advocates Media Role in Countering Terrorism

General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), the Minister of Defence, stated the crucial role of the media in combating terrorist ideology and supporting Nigeria's efforts against asymmetric warfare. He made these remarks during a courtesy visit from the executive members of the Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) at the Ministry of Defence in Abuja.

General Musa highlighted the need for collaboration between the military and media to provide timely and credible information on defence matters. He noted that terrorism stems from radical ideology, which cannot be countered solely with military force but requires effective communication.

He assured DECAN that their proposals would be considered for implementation. Mr Odita Sunday, the President of DECAN, congratulated General Musa on his appointment and announced that the association would confer upon him the title of Grand Patron during their conference in October 2026, recognizing his commitment to defence journalism and national security.
