Defence Minister Stresses Media's Role in Security Efforts

General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), the Minister of Defence, highlighted the essential role of the media in Nigeria's security efforts during a courtesy visit from the executive members of the Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) at the Ministry of Defence in Abuja. He stated that effective collaboration between the military and journalists is crucial for addressing the country's security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping.

General Musa expressed the military's need for media support in the current era of asymmetric warfare and committed to an open-door policy to foster a positive relationship with journalists. He assured DECAN that the Ministry would consider their proposals and urged correspondents to maintain professionalism in their reporting.

Mr. Odita Sunday, the President of DECAN, congratulated General Musa on his appointment and announced that he would be conferred the title of Grand Patron of DECAN during their Conference and Award Ceremony in October 2026, recognizing his commitment to defence journalism.
