Defence Minister Emphasizes Media's Role in Security

General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), the Minister of Defence, highlighted the essential role of the media in addressing Nigeria's security challenges, particularly in asymmetric warfare, during a courtesy visit from the executive members of the Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) at the Ministry of Defence in Abuja. He stated that effective collaboration between the military and the media is crucial for providing Nigerians with timely, accurate, and credible information on defence and security matters.

General Musa committed to an open-door policy to foster a good relationship with the media and encouraged defence correspondents to uphold responsible journalism. Mr. Odita Sunday, the DECAN president, congratulated General Musa on his appointment and announced that DECAN would confer upon him the title of Grand Patron during its Conference and Award in October 2026.

He reaffirmed DECAN's commitment to balanced reporting and called for enhanced collaboration with the Ministry of Defence to boost public confidence in the Armed Forces.
