FG Urges States, Private Schools to Join Education Database

The Federal Government of Nigeria has called on state governments and private school owners to fully engage with the national education database, known as the Digital Nigeria Education Management Information System (DNEMI). During the official launch in Abuja, Dr.

Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, stressed that quality education reform relies on credible and comprehensive data. He revealed that the platform will enhance data collection, analysis, and utilization, enabling government monitoring of schools and identification of resource gaps.

Alausa acknowledged the support from development partners, including the World Bank, European Union, Norwegian Government, and UNICEF, in developing the new educational data infrastructure. He noted the current data coverage includes 90,000 public schools, while only 50% of private schools have registered.

Alausa urged all private schools to upload their data, clarifying that this exercise is not intended for taxation but to improve educational planning. The National Bureau of Statistics, represented by Semiu Adeyemi Adeniran, pledged support for integrating data systems to enhance educational policy implementation.
