FG Launches Committee to Improve Agricultural Exports

The Federal Government of Nigeria inaugurated an interministerial committee to strengthen the country's agricultural quarantine system, aiming to address the rejection of agricultural exports and enhance biosecurity. This initiative, part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, was announced in a statement by Julie Osagie-Jacobs from the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.

The inauguration took place in the Ministerial Conference Room in Abuja, led by Permanent Secretary Dr Deborah Odoh on behalf of Minister Abubakar Bagudu. The committee comprises representatives from key ministries, regulatory institutions, research organizations, and farmers' associations, tasked with developing a coordinated framework to align Nigeria’s agricultural quarantine system with international standards.

Dr Odoh emphasized the need to eliminate losses from non-compliance and expressed confidence that the committee's work would enhance Nigeria's agricultural trade, increase non-oil exports, and contribute to sustainable economic growth.
