FG Inaugurates Bank of Agriculture Board for Food Security

On July 3, 2026, the Federal Government of Nigeria inaugurated the Board of the Bank of Agriculture during a ceremony held in Abuja. Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen.

Abubakar Kyari, urged the board members to "rebuild" the institution to make it a stronger vehicle for agricultural financing and food security initiatives in the country. He noted that the task of revitalizing the bank had already begun, emphasizing that there would be no old guard or new arrivals on the board.

The Bank of Agriculture, established in Kaduna in 1972, is Nigeria's foremost agricultural development financing institution. Although it has undergone several structural changes, its mandate to provide financial support to Nigerian farmers remains unchanged.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved a recapitalization of the bank, which is currently under the supervision of the Bureau of Public Enterprises and the Ministry of Finance, with the Central Bank of Nigeria serving as a shareholder. The bank will also implement a comprehensive digital transformation to enhance access to credit for farmers.
