FG Launches N10bn Housing Scheme for Civil Servants

On Friday, the Federal Government of Nigeria announced a comprehensive welfare package for civil servants, led by Esther Walson-Jack, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation. The package includes a N10 billion housing loan scheme, implemented in partnership with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), to enhance access to home ownership for civil servants.

Walson-Jack emphasized the need to address long-standing financial vulnerabilities faced by public servants post-retirement. The new measures also include an operational employee compensation scheme to cover work-related injuries, diseases, disabilities, and deaths.

Additionally, the government approved full payment of duty tour allowances, allowing civil servants to attend training programs without financial burden. Shehu Osidi, Managing Director of FMBN, described the memorandum of understanding as a strategic intervention to streamline affordable housing finance for government workers, responding to rising construction costs and declining household incomes.
