FG Launches Tinubu Light Initiative for MSMEs' Energy Needs

On Thursday, the Federal Government launched the Tinubu Light Initiative, a nationwide renewable energy programme aimed at providing affordable clean energy to one million Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The initiative was unveiled by the National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI) during the National Showcase of the NextGen Innovation Challenge 2026 at the NICON Luxury Hotel in Abuja.

Dr Kazeem Raji, Director-General and CEO of NBTI, stated that the programme would create over 50,000 direct jobs and promote clean energy adoption while addressing high energy costs due to unreliable electricity supply. The initiative aims to facilitate lower production costs, enhance competitiveness, and encourage local assembly of renewable energy equipment.

It aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship as drivers of economic development. Raji emphasized that the initiative is not just about electrification but also an industrial policy, employment strategy, and climate action initiative.
