FG Launches Tinubu Light Initiative for MSMEs' Energy Needs

On Thursday, the Federal Government unveiled the Tinubu Light Initiative, a nationwide program aimed at providing affordable clean energy to one million Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This initiative, introduced by the National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI) during the National Showcase of the NextGen Innovation Challenge 2026 in Abuja, is designed to lower production costs, create over 50,000 direct jobs, and promote clean energy adoption.

Dr Kazeem Raji, Director-General and CEO of NBTI, stated that the initiative addresses high energy costs due to unreliable electricity and dependence on fossil fuels. He emphasized that the program will foster local manufacturing of renewable energy equipment, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance financial inclusion.

The initiative is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to leverage innovation, science, technology, and entrepreneurship for sustainable economic development.
