Nigeria Validates Gender Policy for Agrifood Systems

On May 5, 2026, the Federal Government of Nigeria validated the Revised National Gender Policy on Agrifood Systems Transformation, a strategic plan aimed at promoting gender equity and achieving food security from 2025 to 2030. The event took place at the NAF Conference Centre in Kado, Abuja, with Sen Abubakar Kyari representing the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security.

The policy framework is designed to ensure equitable access to resources and decision-making opportunities for both women and men in the agricultural sector. Sen Kyari described the initiative as a significant milestone in ongoing reforms to build an inclusive and sustainable agricultural sector.

The policy aims to strengthen gender-responsive approaches across agricultural programs and interventions, addressing persistent gender disparities that limit women's participation in the agrifood value chain. The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda and includes collaborations with organizations such as ActionAid Nigeria, AGRA, and GIZ.
