FIFA Accepts NFF Leadership Resignations Amid Reforms

Ibrahim Gusau, the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi resigned last week due to mounting pressure over the repeated failures of Nigeria’s national football teams. Alongside them, the executive committee members also resigned, leading to a significant overhaul of football leadership in Nigeria.

Emmanuel Ikpeme has been appointed as the interim general secretary of the NFF. Concerns about potential sanctions from FIFA were fueled by a purported letter, which the NFF later debunked as fake.

Following a meeting with FIFA, led by NSC chairman Shehu Dikko, the NFF confirmed that FIFA accepted the resignations of Gusau and others. The NFF stated that it is working with FIFA and CAF to implement comprehensive reforms in Nigerian football, including establishing a roadmap in accordance with relevant rules and statutes.
