NFF President Ibrahim Gusau Resigns Amid FIFA Concerns

On August 27, Ibrahim Gusau resigned as the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), a surprising move amid the Super Falcons' historic failure to qualify for the 2027 Women’s World Cup and the Super Eagles' absence from consecutive World Cups. Wale Agbede, a sports broadcaster, commented on the administration's failures, including allegations of corruption and mismanagement of funds, with reports of N17 billion involved.

Following Gusau's resignation, there were speculations about government interference, particularly from President Bola Tinubu, who called for "comprehensive reforms" in Nigerian football. Reports indicated that FIFA was dissatisfied with the situation and might impose sanctions, but the NFF refuted these claims, asserting that FIFA had accepted the resignations of its former officials.
