FIFA and CAF Assess NFF Crisis After Mass Resignation

On Monday, FIFA and CAF officials initiated an assessment of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) crisis, meeting with National Sports Commission chairman Shehu Dikko and members of the NFF’s federating units at the Abuja Continental Hotel. This meeting followed the mass resignation of NFF president Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, and other board members on August 27, amid scrutiny over the national teams' performances, particularly their failure to qualify for World Cups.

The FIFA and CAF delegation included Ahmed Harraz, Rolf Tanner, El Hadj Wack Diop, and Nnaemeka Olu. Dikko briefed the officials on the government's reform agenda for sports before engaging with NFF Congress members.

The assessment aims to examine the circumstances of the resignations, governance restructuring, NFF statutes, electoral processes, and the government's role. FIFA stated that no decisions had been made yet and that the assessment would inform future recommendations to its decision-making bodies.
