FIFA, CAF Delegation in Nigeria for NFF Crisis Assessment

A FIFA and CAF delegation arrived in Nigeria on September 14, 2023, for a two-day mission to address the leadership crisis within the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). This visit follows the resignations of NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau and General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi on August 27, 2023.

The delegation aims to conduct a joint assessment to understand the implications of these leadership changes on governance and electoral processes. FIFA emphasized that no conclusions have been reached regarding the issues under review.

The NFF's elective congress, originally set for September 27, 2023, in Lafia, Nasarawa State, is on hold as FIFA directed the NFF to suspend its electoral process until the assessment is complete. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered reforms in Nigerian football, instructing NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko to collaborate with the NFF and relevant stakeholders to improve governance and avoid sanctions from FIFA and CAF.

The assessment's outcome may lead to recommendations for future actions.
