FIFA and CAF Suspend NFF Election Amid Governance Crisis

On September 8, FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the suspension of the Nigeria Football Federation's (NFF) electoral process due to a crisis following the mass resignation of senior officials. This decision was communicated in a letter dated September 7 from FIFA’s Chief Member Associations Officer, Elkhan Mammadov, to NFF Acting Deputy General Secretary Emmanuel Ikpeme.

The resignations included NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau and General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi on August 27, which created a leadership vacuum and raised concerns about the upcoming electoral congress scheduled for September 27. FIFA and CAF are sending a joint delegation to Abuja to investigate the circumstances surrounding the resignations and assess the implications for the NFF's governance and electoral framework.

This intervention follows a meeting on September 1 at FIFA House in Zurich, where discussions on a roadmap for comprehensive reforms were initiated.
