FIFA Confirms Arthur Okonkwo's Switch to Nigeria

FIFA has officially approved Arthur Okonkwo's switch from representing England to Nigeria, enabling him to play for the Super Eagles at the senior level. Okonkwo, a 24-year-old goalkeeper and product of Arsenal's academy, previously featured for England at the U15 and U18 levels.

He has decided to commit his international future to Nigeria, prompting the Nigeria Football Federation to seek formal clearance from FIFA. This move mirrors the situation of Felix Agu, who debuted for Nigeria without prior clearance after playing for Germany's youth side.

Okonkwo has been tracked by Nigerian football authorities for a year, with former NFF president Amaju Pinnick recommending him to coach Gernot Rohr, who felt the team needed a goalkeeper with top-level experience. Currently playing for Wrexham, Okonkwo has impressed in the English leagues, keeping ten clean sheets in 37 league matches this season.

He is now eligible for selection ahead of Nigeria's upcoming international window, where head coach Ric Chell is expected to name several fringe players for the matches against Poland and Portugal.
