FIFA President Infantino Faces Withdrawal of Support

On Monday, Serbia and Sweden withdrew their support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino's re-election campaign, joining Wales in this decision. The Football Association of Serbia stated it reversed its earlier endorsement made on May 25, citing serious damage to FIFA's image and reputation as the rationale for its withdrawal.

The Swedish Football Association also announced its decision after assessing ongoing governance and transparency issues within FIFA, indicating a loss of trust in Infantino's leadership. Earlier on the same day, Wales became the first national football association to formally withdraw its support.

The withdrawals come amid growing criticism of Infantino's leadership, particularly following FIFA's decision to shelve a proposal to sell a 20 percent stake in a new commercial entity overseeing competitions, which was expected to generate up to $4.2 billion. England's Football Association is also anticipated to withdraw support, further escalating opposition to Infantino's presidency.
