FIFA Faces Governance Crisis After Abandoning Investment Plan

FIFA President Gianni Infantino convened an emergency meeting on Wednesday in Rabat, Morocco, with senior management, including FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom, to address the fallout from the abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal. This proposal aimed to create a commercial entity to manage FIFA's tournaments and sell a 20 percent stake to private investors, but it faced widespread opposition from major football confederations, including UEFA, which publicly declared it had lost confidence in Infantino's leadership.

The controversy escalated as national football associations, including those of England, Wales, and the Scottish Football Association, withdrew their support for Infantino. Arsène Wenger, FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development, distanced himself from the initiative, stating he had no involvement and supported FIFA's decision to abandon the proposal.

Despite the withdrawal, the crisis within FIFA deepened, with reports indicating that UEFA considered boycotting FIFA competitions if the proposal had not been abandoned.
