Child Playing with Lighter Causes Fire in Ilorin

On Thursday, June 11, 2026, a fire outbreak occurred at No. 38 Aduagbemi Street, behind Uniform Company off Asa Dam Road in Ilorin, Kwara State, caused by a child playing with a lighter. The fire ignited a piece of paper, which subsequently caught nearby combustible materials, affecting a three-bedroom flat.

The Kwara State Fire Service, led by spokesperson Hassan Adekunle, confirmed their prompt intervention helped control the situation and prevent it from escalating into a devastating inferno. Preliminary investigations revealed that neighbors noticed the fire and raised the alarm, enabling firefighters to act swiftly.

Alabi Muham, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, cautioned parents and guardians to ensure children are kept away from fire sources and to supervise them adequately.
