Fire Destroys Over 10 Shops at Jos Main Market

A fire incident occurred at Jos main market around 10:00 PM, resulting in the destruction of over 10 shops, particularly affecting clothing and shoe retailers. This incident follows a similar fire that occurred three months prior.

Although the exact cause of the fire has not been confirmed by market authorities, victims suggest it may have been due to an electrical fault. Emergency response teams, including the National Emergency Management Agency, Plateau State Emergency Management Agency, Federal Fire Service, and Plateau State Fire Service, acted swiftly to contain the blaze, preventing it from escalating into a major disaster.

Mr. Sila Lawrenzo reported that the rapid response helped limit damage and prevent the fire from spreading across the commercial hub. The market has experienced three separate fire incidents in the past year, resulting in losses worth millions of naira.
