First Lady commends Wike for City Gate transformation into green space
Senator Oluremi Tinubu praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for converting Abuja's City Gate into a recreational landmark as part of environmental initiatives.
Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, recognized Minister Nyesom Wike for converting Abuja's City Gate into a recreational and environmental destination. At a formal ceremony held at the Presidential Villa, Tinubu bestowed certificates of honour upon Wike and Dr Mariya Bunkure, Minister of State for the FCT.
Tinubu characterized the City Gate project as remarkable, observing its alignment with the Renewed Hope Initiative's Green Nigeria Challenge. Young Nigerians participate in this programme by transforming neglected spaces and former dumpsites into functioning green areas and community parks.
The First Lady raised concerns regarding inadequate engagement in the initiative's top funding bracket during the event. According to her remarks, not a single state government submitted applications for the N50 million prize tier intended to fund youth-driven environmental initiatives throughout Nigeria's states.
The ceremony underscored how the FCT Administration remains dedicated to environmental restoration efforts. Wike's ministry has showcased the City Gate as a case study demonstrating how deliberate approaches to urban design can unite recreation, community wellness, and ecological stewardship in metropolitan settings.
