Edo Police Dismiss Five Officers for Extortion and Abuse

The Edo State Police Command has dismissed five officers following public complaints of harassment, abduction, and extortion. The officers, identified as Goodluck Jaja, Bonni Onajit, Ehubariem Wisdom, Arebam Godspower, and Mordi Philip, were reportedly involved in a criminal syndicate that unlawfully stopped and extorted unsuspecting citizens in Benin City.

The command's leadership, under Commissioner of Police Mondai Agbonika, initiated an investigation after receiving multiple complaints about these officers posing as law enforcement to commit heinous crimes. The investigation revealed that these officers exploited police equipment to deceive victims and operated with impunity, damaging the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force.

The command has called on victims to come forward to assist in further investigations and has warned that any police personnel found complicit in illegal activities will face arrest and prosecution. The Inspector General of Police, Olaitan Rilwan Disu, reassured residents of Edo State of the commitment to restoring public confidence in the police.
