Police Arrest 6 Officers for Extortion and Abduction

The Nigerian Police Force has arrested six officers, identified as ASP Bonni Paul Onajit, Inspector Ehubariem Wisdom, Inspector Arebam Godspow, Corporal Mordi Philip, Corporal Okon Elvi, and Corporal Destini Emmanuel, along with three others, including Goodluck Jaja, Samuel Nichola, and Etim Bright, for extortion and abduction in Benin City. The arrests were made following serious complaints from residents about harassment and the impersonation of police personnel.

The spokesperson for the command, ASP Eno Ikioedem, stated that the suspects are undergoing internal disciplinary procedures, which may include orderly room trials and prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations. The group reportedly operated along the Teboga axis off Aduwawa, where they forced victims into vehicles and compelled them to withdraw money from Point of Sale terminals under duress.

This operation was described as a serious breach of public trust, and the police have urged victims to come forward to aid in prosecution efforts.
