Five Police Officers Dismissed for Armed Robbery, Kidnapping

The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed five officers and initiated prosecution against them for alleged involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping, and extortion. The officers, identified as Inspectors Ayanniyi Jelili, Durojay Franci, and Olayemi Titu, were implicated in serious crimes including illegal patrols and the abduction of victims during unlawful stop-and-search operations in Port Harcourt.

They reportedly extorted millions of naira using a cryptocurrency application. The investigation, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Placid, uncovered a criminal syndicate involving these officers and three accomplices, including Inspectors Awel Ogbogu and Prosper Aghotor.

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, upon assuming office, vowed to uphold professional ethics and ensure accountability within the force. The case has been forwarded for prosecution, and the police encourage public reporting of misconduct and human rights violations.
